Brief History Of Badminton:

This game was played in ancient times in Greece.  In India the game was called ‘Poona’, named after the town of Pune. In

1850 in Southen Indian the game was called ‘flower-ball game’.

The first shuttlecock was made with goose feathers attached to a round cork that was wrapped in leather.  Some thought it looked like a flower.  More recent, another name was given a just ‘shuttle’.  The cock portion was dropped due to the vulgar concept, yet widely used is now, the term ‘Birdie’.

In 1887 basic rules were drawn up.  It was not until 1893 those rules would be set to print.  1934 would be the year that the

“Badminton World’s Federation” would be formed.

Competitive games are played indoors due to the wind factor.  The birdie does have a drag force when being projected.  Outside

forces could inferior with the game.

Outdoors the game is played more for the fun of it.  It is also played indoors at schools and recreation centers.

In 1992 this sports became part of the Olympics.
